Being among the leading countries in the provision of quality education, Malaysia is set to upgrade its higher education system to churn out skilled educated and refined graduates. The blueprint set to be realised by 2025 is probably the most ambitious, but well on course so that it places this country as local and international students' destination of choice. Away from that, however, Malaysia ranks among the best countries where one can get a Professional Certificate Programme to pursue.
About Professional Certificate Programmes and other Short Courses
In Malaysia and maybe all over the world, the whole essence of enrolling for a short course is to earn extra skills that add weight to the CV. A short course can take place during the school holiday period or even during the regular academic period. Mostly, these courses can last for a few weeks or months.
A professional certificate is a bit of a short course, though the main difference is the fact that it functions as a stepping stone into studying a diploma. Though there are many certificate courses in Malaysia, the most recognised ones are:
1. A certificate in Early Childhood Education
For those whose calling revolves around teaching and taking care of toddlers, Early Childhood Education (ECD) might be their best choice. Usually, a course in ECD takes a year and a half, and the teacher graduates with such skills as being a teacher, a caregiver and a counsellor.
2. A Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB)
Launched in 2008 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, CFAB is nowadays an excellent choice of certificate for business, accounting or commerce students. Basically, this course offers an insight into the fundamentals of finance, accounting and business and takes just 18 months.
3. A Certificate in Art and Design
This certificate course is meant to prepare the student who loves the design to enter this wholly exciting field. Basic knowledge of computer software plus design concepts is mandatory though it mainly targets those fresh from high school. The whole programme takes a year and a half, and upon graduation, one may proceed to enrol for a diploma or seek direct employment.
4. A Certificate in TEFL from LTTC, UK
This 2-5- month course is usually perfect for those hoping to teach English lessons in private schools in Malaysia.
5. A Professional Certificate in Islamic Finance
IFPC is a programme designed to accommodate professionals who would like to earn knowledge in specific areas of their careers. It takes just 14 weeks and is available in selected institutions.
There are many other certificate courses offered by colleges and universities in Malaysia. Eligibility depends on the nature of the course as well as the SPM and O-Level scores of the potential student.
